Finding the Right Psychologist for You

The title of “Registered Psychologist” in the province of Alberta ensures that the regulated health professional you are interacting with will be held to professional standards of practice outlined by the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). Being a “Registered Psychologist” also means that the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) has verified that the psychologist has successfully completed:

    • graduate level training (Masters OR Masters + Doctoral degree)
    • the Law and Ethics for Alberta Psychologists (LEAP) Examination
    • the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) licensing exam
    • at least 1600 hrs of supervised practice (after completing graduate degrees); some of these hours are client facing and some are not

These minimum requirements tell prospective clients how Registered Psychologists in Alberta are the same. Unfortunately, that doesn’t help most clients figure out who can help them in a sea of thousands of options on Psychology Today.
